AuthForge vs SoftActivate

AuthForge gives you unlimited apps and licenses on one shared credit pool, billed by usage from $10 with no monthly minimum. SoftActivate Licensing is a cloud licensing service (with a legacy on-prem SDK still available) priced mainly by active devices: about $19 / $49 / $199 per month for 1,000 / 10,000 / 100,000 devices, verified on softactivate.com/licensing/pricing as of September 2026. No caps to plan around

SoftActivate's cloud pricing is straightforward: pick a device band ($19 / $49 / $199) and grow into the next when activations climb. Product counts are also tiered on the lower plans. AuthForge instead removes product and device plan ceilings and bills only for validation traffic from one shared credit pool — useful if you ship many apps or want cost to track auth calls rather than peak device inventory.

Where SoftActivate may still fit

SoftActivate may still fit if you are a .NET or C++ Windows/desktop shop that wants SoftActivate's SDK heritage, certificate-chain offline validation, built-in subscription analytics, a sandbox for safe experimentation, or an eventual path to on-premise / legacy SDK ownership. Those are fair advantages versus AuthForge's cloud-minted model, where offline machines run on signed .authforge license files that cannot be revoked remotely once issued.

Questions developers ask

How does pricing compare?

As of September 2026, SoftActivate lists roughly $19/mo (1,000 devices, 1 product), $49/mo (10,000 devices, 10 products), $199/mo (100,000 devices, unlimited products), and Enterprise custom. AuthForge starts from $10 in credits with unlimited apps/devices and no monthly minimum.

Does AuthForge replace SoftActivate's offline certificate validation?

Largely, yes. Besides the post-activation grace period (default 24 hours, up to 7 days), AuthForge mints Ed25519-signed .authforge license files in the cloud (1 credit) that the SDK verifies locally with your public key and the machine HWID, with no network. Files carry their own expiry and cannot be revoked remotely. SoftActivate uses a certificate / PKI chain and offers on-prem ownership, which AuthForge does not.

Is there overlap for C# / C++ apps?

Yes. Both offer C# and C++ paths. SoftActivate's cloud product is especially centered on C++ and .NET; AuthForge adds first-party Python, Node, Go, and Rust as well.
